The Wedding Commission

You start with a conversation, not a measurement. Before any fabric is chosen, Berny wants to understand who you are and the kind of day you're planning. That happens in a Fitting Session, held over video anywhere in the world or in person at the showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. You'll talk through the wedding, your colours, and how you want to feel when the room turns toward you. Everything else is built from there.

Rent if you'll wear it once and never think of it again. There's no shame in that. A rented suit, though, is cut for no one and has been worn by others before you. A LeCatou suit is cut for your body alone and stays yours to keep. Most grooms reach for it again long after the wedding, and seen that way, a commissioned suit is rarely the more expensive choice.

Four to five months before the wedding is ideal. A made-to-measure suit takes roughly 8 to 12 weeks to complete, and Berny won't rush the final fitting before a wedding. Sooner is always easier. If your date is closer than that, it's worth asking anyway, as the house can often still make it work.

The suit should look like you above all else. From there, a few things shape the choice. The season guides the cloth, lighter and more open in summer, heavier and deeper in winter. The setting guides the formality, since a garden in the afternoon calls for less than a ballroom at night. A two-piece reads easier and more modern, while a three-piece, with its waistcoat, carries more occasion. If your wedding has colours, they rarely need to cover the whole suit. More often they sit best in the lining or the tie.

Your suit stays yours. The men beside you shouldn't disappear into a uniform, nor should they pull attention away from you. The house's usual approach is to dress them in your palette, each suit cut a little differently, so you read clearly as the groom without standing there alone. It's arranged together once your commission begins, and there's nothing separate to purchase for it.

Yes. Most grooms aren't local. The Fitting Session is held over video, the suit is made, and it's delivered to you wherever the wedding takes place. If you happen to be near a showroom, you're welcome to come in. If not, nothing is lost in doing it remotely.

The Wedding Commission starts at $3,000. That covers a full look: the jacket, the trousers, a shirt, a tie, and a personalization sewn into the lining. It's a fully custom suit in the house cloth. If you'd prefer something more particular, such as a Loro Piana or a Holland & Sherry, the difference is discussed and agreed during your consultation.
